Chhapra : Three members of a family including two elderly persons were shot dead at village Narayanpur under Garkha police station in Saran district after midnight on May 30, 2017, when they were sleeping on the verandah on their house.
The deceased were identified as Paras Rai, 80, his wife Basmati Devi, 75, and their grandson Vijendra Rai. Vijendra’s father Rajeshwar Rai and his wife Sushila also sustained bullet injury when they tried to save their son. Rajeshwar’s daughter Pallavi was also thrashed by the accused.
Confirming the incident, Saran SP Anusuya Ransingh Sahu on May 31, 2017, said that the reason behind the killing was land dispute. The SP said three other members of the family were injured in the firing which took place at 12.30 am.
Garkha police station SHO said that the involvement of one Anil Rai was suspected behind the killing of three persons. The SHO said that Anil Rai, who is absconding after the incident, is a close relative of the deceased and belongs to the same village. Police have launched a manhunt for Anil Rai, who had been jailed in the past as well, he said. The SHO said that it was an old land dispute. Incidentally, no FIR had been lodged till 10.45 am on May 31 in connection with the incident.
