Muzaffarpur : Three constables led by Akhtar Shah were arrested on June 7, 2017, afternoon, from Kanti police station area in Muzaffarpur district for illegally detaining a youth Shashi Ranjan, 22, on ATM fraud charge and demanding an extortion amount of  Rs 5 lakh to release him. All the three constables were sent to jail on June 8. SSP Muzaffarpur Vivek Kumar immediately suspended all the three constables.

Confirming the arrest and suspension of three constables on extortion charge, Muzaffarpur SSP said that they had detained a youth illegally on ATM fraud charge and were demanding Rs 5 lakh to release him.

Akhtar Shah, according to Muzaffarpur Town DSP Ashish Anand, is vice-president of Muzaffarpur Ddistrict Policemen’s Association and is not attached to any police station. He is attached to  policeline, the Town DSP said.

DSP Anand said that Akhtar with the help of two constables of Tiger Mobile ( constables on bike) detained Shahshi Ranjan, a native of village Manikpur under Meenapur police station in Muzaffarpur district, on Zero Mile under Ahiyapur police station and were carrying him to Kanti area with the help of five bike borne associates when a villager saw them doing it and informed the SSP Vivek Kumar and him.

Anand said the three constables took Shahshi to a school at Kanti and demanded Rs 5 lakh from his family members at Manikpur on phone to release him. Meanwhile, a police team had swung into action and arrested the three constables at Kanti though their five associates managed to escape after seeing police. The DSP said that Shashi Ranjan had no criminal antecedent.
