Ara : Three girls drowned to death in a pond at village Tilauth under Piro police station in Bhojpur district on September 20, 2018, evening, while two other girls were rescued by a mason working nearby. Police rushed to the spot and with the help of divers, bodies of the girls were fished out. Later, police brought the bodies over to Sadar Hospital, Ara, for post-mortem.

SHO, Piro police station, said that five teenage girls: Chhoti Kumari, 11, daughter of Birendra Sah, Ankita Kumari, 14, daughter of Yogendra Prasad, Puja Kumari, 15, daughter of Umesh Rai, and Jyoti Kumari, 13, daughter of Mahendra Sah of village Tilauth village under Piro police station, and Riya Kumari, 10, daughter of Santosh of Baligaon under Rajpur police station in Rohtas district, had gone to a village pond at Tilauth after coming from school in the evening on September 20 to take a a dip. Riya Kumari had come to her maternal uncle’s place at Tilauth village with her mother a week ago.

When they were taking bath in the pond, a minor girl fell into the pond and in their effort to save the minor girl, all the five girls started drowning in the deep water. Seeing the girls drowning, a mason Bhadiman Baitha working at Banshi Baba ka Temple nearby somehow rescued Puja Kumari and Jyoti Kumari though he could not rescue Chhoti Kumari, Ankita Kumari and Riya Kumari. All the four girls except Riya Kumari were students of class VI in the Middle School, Tilauth.
