Thompson stuns Khachanov in 2nd round of ATP Miami Open

Patna : World No 77 Jordan Thompson, 24, Australia, demolished World No 12 Karen Khachanov, 22, Russia, 6-2, 6-3 in 71 minutes in  the second round of ATP Miami Open at Florida, USA, on March 23, 2019, causing a major upset in the tournament. Thompson broke Khachanov’s service thrice in the match besides winning three games in a row to sail into the 3rd round. Thompson fired 6 Aces in the match to 4 by Khachanov.

World No 41 Joao Sousa, 29, Portugal, defeated World No 38 Steve Johnson, 29, USA, 7-6, 6-4 to enter the 3rd round. Johnson though fired 12 Aces in the match to 4 by Sousa. Sousa won 2 break points while Sousa won 1. Johnson committed 4 double faults to 2 by Sousa. Both the players won 3 games each in a row.

World No 15 Daniil Medvedev, 23, Russia, crushed World No 55 Adrian Mannarino, 30, France, 6-2, 6-1 to enter the 3rd round of the tournament firing 9 Aces and winning 8 games in a row. Medvedev broke Mannarino’s service 5 times while the latter broke his service just once.

World No 23 Denis Shapovalov, 19, Canada, defeated World No 97 Dan Evans, 28, UK, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 to enter the 3rd round.
