Patna : Chennai Super Kings (CSK) crushed Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 7 wickets in the first match of IPL-12 at M A Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, Tamil Nadu, on March 23, 2019, night, with Ambati Rayudu scoring 28 in 42 balls with 2 fours and a six and Suresh Raina 19 in 21 balls with 3 fours.
Kedar Jadhav and Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 13 and 6 runs respectively. Chasing a target of 71 runs, CSK scored 71/3 in 17.4 overs. Opener Shane Watson fell to spinner Yuzvendra Chahal for zero. RCB bowlers also bowled well and made CSK batsmen work hard for runs. With this win, CSK have defeated RCB in their last 7 matches. Suresh Raina on March 23 became the first batsman to score 5,000 runs in the IPL.
Batting first, RCB were all out for just 70 in 17.1 over. RCB batsmen including captain Virat Kohli and AB de Villers collapsed like pack of cards against CSK spinners : Harbhajan Singh, Imran Tahir, and Ravindra Jadeja. Harbhajan and Tahir took 3 wickets each while Jadeja took 2 wickets. Dwayne Bravo also took one wicket. Pathiv Patel was top scorer for RCB with 29 runs. Harbhajan Singh was named Player of the Match.
