Patna : Top Seed Dominic Thiem, 26, Austria, 5th seed Borna Coric, 23, Croatia, World No 52 Lorenzo Sonego, 24, Italy, and Qualifier Gianluca Mager, 25, Italy, entered the quarter-finals of Rio Open, an ATP Tour 500 played on outdoor clay courts at Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on February 21, 2020.

World No 4 Dominic Thiem defeated World No 99 Jaume Munar, 22, Spain, in a three-set thriller 6-7, 6-3, 6-4 in 2hr 41 minutes in 2nd round rallying back from one set down, his back to back three-set match. Thiem won 5 break points in the match to 2 by the Spaniard. Both the players won 4 games each in a row in the match. Thiem committed 5 double faults to 3 by Munar. The Austrian, in all, won 103 points to 95 by the Spaniard. He won 63 service points to 59 by Munar.

World No 52 Lorenzo Sonego upset 2nd seed & World No 23 Dusan Lajovic, 29, Serbia, 7-6, 7-6 in 2hr 9 minutes in 2nd round to enter QFs. Both the players fired 4 Aces each in the match. Both of them also won 2 break points each and 3 games each in a row in the match. The Italian won 57 service points to 55 by the Serbian.

World No 128 Gianluca Mager beat World No 169 Joao Domingues, 26, Portugal, 7-3, 7-5 in 2nd round to enter QFs. Mager won 3 break points in gthe match to 2 by Domingues. He also fired 6 Aces in the match to 1 by Domingues. Both the players won 3 games each in a row in the match. Mager will face Thiem in QFs on February 22.

World No 32 Borna Coric beat World No 206 Thiago Seyboth Wild, 19, Brazil,  in three-sets 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 in 2 hr 19 minutes in 2nd round. Corin fired 7 Aces in the match to 8 by Thiago Wild. Thiago Wild won 3 break points to 2 by the Croatian. Wild also won 5 games in a row in the match to 3 by Coric. Wild, in all, won 93 points to 86 by the Croatian. Coric will face Sonego in QFs on February 22, 2020.
