Patna : Top seed Dominic Thiem, 26, Austraia, edged past 3rd seed Stefanos Tsitsipas, 21, Greece, in a three-set slugfest in the final lasting 2hr 11 minutes to win men’s single title at China Open, an ATP World Tour 500 points event, at Beijing, China, on October 6, 2019. Thiem won 500 ATP rankings points points for winning the title while Tsitsipas secured 300 points.

World No 5 Thiem beat World No 7 Tsitsipas 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 in the final battling back from one set down at National Tennis Center, Beijing. Thiem, the French Open finalist in 2018 & 2019, won 5 break points in the match to 3 by the Greek. The Austrian also won 7 games in a row in the match to 3 by Tsitsipas.

Thiem won 53 service points to 48 by Tsitsipas during the match. The Austrian fired 5 Aces in the match to 7 by the Greek. Thiem’s winning percentage both on his first and second serve ( 69 % & 60%) was higher than that of Tsitsipas ( 60 % & 52 %). Thiem had also battled back from one set down to win his semi-final match against World No 9 Karen Khachanov, 23, Russia.
