Patna : World No 4 and reigning Australian Open Champion Naomi Osaka, 21, Japan, beat top seed and French Open Champion Ashleigh Barty, 23, Australia, in a three-set thriller battling back from one set down to win the China Open title, a WTA premier event, on October 6, 2019. This win will improve Osaka’s WTA rankings to be released on October 7.
Fourth seed Osaka won 3 break points in the match to 1 by World No 1 Barty. Both the players won 3 games each in a row in the match. Osaka, the 2018 US Open Champion, won 58 service points to 50 by the Australian. Both the players committed 3 double faults each in the match. Both of them also won 3 games each in a row.
Osaka’s winning percentage both on her first and second serve ( 81 % & 59 %) was much higher than that of top seed Barty (70 % & 52 %). Osaka served 4 Aces in the match to 6 by Barty. Osaka had defeated reigning US Open Champion Bianca Andreescu, 19, Canada, in the quarter-finals in three sets.
