Ara : The 5th convocation of Veer Kuer Singh University (VKSU), Ara, was held on the new campus of the university near Zero Mile on June 25, 2019 with Bihar Governor cum Chancellor of State Universities Lalji Tandon inaugurating it by lighting the ceremonial candle and also presiding over the function.

Registrar, VKSU, Col Shyamanand Jha conducted the meeting. Former VC, Banaras Hindu University, Girish Chandra Tripathi, VC, Patna University, P C Jaiswal, VC, VKSU, Devi Prasad Tiwari, Pro VC, VKSU, Nand Kishor Sah, Education Minister, Bihar, Krishna Nandan Prasad Verma, Bhojpur DM Roushan Kushwaha, SP Sushil Kumar, ASP (operations) Nitin Kumar along with other senior officials of the district were present on the occasion. Elaborate security arrangements were made for the event with 40 magistrates and heavy police force deployed en-route the convocation venue. Vice-Chacellor, VKSU Devi Prasad Tiwari, presented shawl and memento to the governor cum chancellor.

Governor cum Chancellor Lal Ji Tandon, speaking on the occasion, said the students of Bihar are very meritorious but now we are trying to discard Macaulay system of education.  The university is named after the foremost freedom fighter of first war of independence and advised the people to go through the life of  Veer Kuer Singh . He said that the ancient Indian surgeon Sushrut not Albert Einstein should be our ideal and added that Sushrut was the father of plastic surgery. He further said no one could be successful in life if he/ she does not take pride in his or her past. He said that new India, new education policy, new awareness is on way and added that the world is copying the ancient Indian sciences and also doing research on them. He said  that those who do not perform their duties are not entitled to continue on their post. He said that the teachers’ foremost duty is to impart quality education and instil sense of discipline, civilisation, and culture among the students.

VC, VKSU, Devi Prasad Tiwari said that the VKSU was established on October 22, 1992, and at present 17 constituent colleges, 31 affiliated colleges, 2 B.Ed colleges, one Government college, three business schools are running under the university while affiliation of 23 colleges to the VKSU is sub-judice. He stated that at least 6 lakh students are studying in different colleges under the VKSU. He presented annual report of the university and said that it provides all basic facilities to the students and also inculcating a sense of discipline, nationalism, morality, responsibility among them. He said that the VKSU would start course in journalism and mass communication from the academic session 2019.

Earlier, a ‘shobha yatra’ was taken out from the VKSU campus to the convocation venue and the Governor cum Chancellor reached there along with Deans of different aculties, Senate and Syndicate and academic council members, VC, VKSU. Registrar, VKSU, led the shobha yatra.

The governor gave away gold, silver and other medals and certificates to at least 67 students on the occasion. Shushma, PG topper in the department of Botony, reached the function site with broken leg, and received gold medal from the Governor who waited for her at least seven minutes on the dais.

Meanwhile, students of PG department of Bhojpuri protested and showed black flag as they were debarred from the convocation. Shiv Gandhi, who topped the PG department of Bhojpuri, said that the VKSU took admission in the Bhojpuri department, appointed HoD, conducted examination regularly and published result but debarred the students from convocation saying that Bhojupuri subject is not recognised by the office of the Governor cum Chancellor.
