Patna : World No 1 in Badminton World Federation (BWF0 rankings Tai Tzu Ying, 24, Taiwan, and World No 2 Akane Yamaguchi, Japan, entered the quarter-finals (QF) of Yonex-Sunrise Hong Kong Open 2018, a BWF World Tour Super 500 tournament, on November 15, 2018, but World No 4 P V Sindhu, India, crashed out of the event losing to World No 10 Sung Ji Hyun, 27, South Korea.

Top seed Tai Tzu Ying beat World No 25 Cheung Ngan Yi, 25, Hong Kong, in a tough three-game encounter 17-21, 21-16, 21-9 in the second round in 57 minutes. Ying won 59 rallies in the match to 46 by Yi. She also won 8 consecutive points in the match to 5 by Yi. Ying now leads Yi 7-0 head to head.

Yamaguchi defeated World No 29 Han Yue, 18, China, 21-19, 21-11 in 29 minutes in the second round. Yamaguchi, the second seed, won 42 rallies in the match to 30 by Han Yue. Yamaguchi won 4 consecutive points while Yue won 5 consecutive points. She now leads Yue 2-0 head to head.

World No 10 Sung Ji Hyun stunned Sindhu, the 3rd seed, in a tough contest 26-24, 22-20 in 59 minutes in the second round. Hyun won 48 rallies in the match to 44 by Sindhu. Both the players won 4 consecutive points each during the match. Sindhu though still leads Hyun 8-6 head to head.

Regining Olympic and World Champion Carolina Marin, 25, Spain, also entered the QF defeating World No 16 Lichelle Li, 27, Canada, 21-14, 21-8 in 34 minutes in the second round. Carolina won 42 rallies in the match to 22 by Li. Carolina won 11 consecutive points in the match to 4 by Li. Carolina leads Li 3-2 head to head.

Former World Champion and World No 6 Nozomi Okuhara, Japan, beat World No 13 Gao Fangjie, 20, China, 21-17, 21-9 in 36 minutes in the second round to enter the Quarter-finals.
