Patna : World No 1 Tai Tzu Ying, 24, Taiwan, and World No 4 Akane Yamaguchi, 21, Japan, reached the final of Celcom Axiata Malaysia Open 2019, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 750 category tournament, at Axiata Arena, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on Aoril 6, 2019. The final will be played on April 7.

Top seed Tai Tzu Ying beat World No 2 and 3rd seed Chen Yufei, 21, China, in straight games 21-14, 21-19 in 34 minutes in the semi-finals at Axiata Arena on April 6, 2019. Tai Tzu won 42 rallies in the match to 33 by Yufei. She also won 6 consecutive points in the match to 4 by Yufei. Tai Tzu now leads Yufei 12-1 head to head. Yufei had defeated Tai Tzu in the final of All England Open Badminton Championships on March 10, 2019.

Yamaguchi beat World No 3 and 3rd seed Nozomi Okuhara,24, Japan, the 2017 World Champion, 21-15, 22-20 in 42 minutes in the semi-finals. Yamaguchi won 42 rallies in the match to 35 by Okuhara. She also won 6 consecutive points in the match to 4 by Okuhara. Okuhara, however, still leads Yamaguchi 11-7 head to head.
