Patna : World No 1 Tai Tzu Ying, 26, Taiwan, won the women’s singles title at HSBCBWF World Tour Finals defeating reigning Olympic champion and three-time former World Champion Carolina Marin, 27, Spain, in a three-game thriller at Impact Arena, Pak Kret, Nonthaburi, Bangkok, Thailand, on January 31, 2021. Tai Tzu had lost to Carolina in the finals of Yonex Thailand Open and Toyota Thailand Open recently.

Tai Tzu beat Carolina 14-21, 21-8, 21-19 in 67 minutes in the finals on January 31, 2021, rallying back strongly from after losing the first game. Carolina won the first game comfortably. But, Tai Tzu was all over the Spainiard in the 2nd game winning it easily. The third game was a close battle and it was 19-19. Tzi Tzu, however, won the next two points to win the match.

Tai Tzu won 56 rallies in the match to 48 by Carolina. She won 5 consecutive points during the match to 6 by the Spainiard. Tai Tzu now leads Carolina 1-8 Head to Head.

Tai Tzu won 12,000 rankings points  and $120,000 prize money for winning the title . Runner-up Carolina won 10,200 rankings points and $60,000 prize money.
