Bagaha : A large number of sugarcane farmers gathered at Kutchery Ground, Bagaha, in West Champaran district, under chairmanship of Amar Singh and discussed the problems allegedly created  by the state government and sugar factory authorities.

Many farmers including Rambilas Singh, Chhote Srivastava, Nandesh Pandey, Vijay Singh, and Jayesh Singh also blamed MLAs and MPs of Champaran for their plight saying they were reluctant to take up the issue of sugarcane farmers with the state government and sugar factory authorities even as the farmers were facing acute economic crisis due to non-payment of their arrears though sugarcane crushing season began 48 days back.

The Sugarcane farmer also submitted a memorandum regarding their problems to SDM, Bagaha, copies of which were sent to DM, West Champaran, Chief Secretary, Sugarcane Development Minister, and Chief Minister. The farmers said that if the state governments fails to announce sugarcane price for the current season within six days, they would launch a massive agitation.

JD(U) Farmers’ Cell workers also held a separate meeting presided over by Gayashuddin the same day to discus the problems of sugarcane farmer and sent an SOS to CM Nitish Kumar urging him to announce the price of sugarcane at the earliest as the  farmers were in a great distress.
