Patna : In an apparent move to commit suicide, Rajiv Kumar alias Raju of Saran district jumped off JP Setu from pillar number 8 under Digha police station, Patna, on August 5, 2018, into river Ganga. He was reportedly suffering from serious kidney ailment and was admitted to IGIMS, Patna,  for treatment. His father Udai Singh and his family were also with him at the hospital. Rajiv Kumar alias Raju was a native of village Ratanpur Basant, Chhapra, in Saran district.

Sources said that disturbed over his disease, Rajiv left IGIMS at around 4 am on August 5 without informing anyone there. Walking down Aashiana-Digha road, he reached JP Setu around 6-7 am. Rajiv reached near pillar number-8 and jumped into river Ganga. Those present there raised an alarm and informed Digha police about the incident.

Digha police station SHO Sachchidanand reached the spot and informed SDRF team about the incident. Later, SDRF team and divers were pressed into rescue operation. The team was engaged in fishing out the body till the filing of this report. Later in the day, Rajiv’s father and his family members reached JP Setu search for him and came to know about the incident. Locals said that it would be difficult to fish out the body as the river is full of water with strong currents.
