Ara : Ara residents are facing a lot of problem in moving on the road after evening as almost all the streetlights have become non-functional. Under an Urban Development Department scheme, Ara Municipal Corporation (AMC) got 100 LED lights of voltage ranging from 150 to 270 watts installed on the 8.5 metre high polls from Shivganj to Station road and Mahavir Tola locality at a cost of Rs 61.78 lakh by BUDCO in 2015.

These LED lights had to illuminate about 40,000 hours but almost all of them developed snag after 1,500 to 2,000 hours plunging the town into darkness during night. But the officials of the AMC never bother to take care of them.

Guddu, Raushani, Simmi and Priya of Mahavir Tola said that though the AMC installed LED lights on the main roads to facilitate the people move on roads during evening and nights safely but due to dilly- dallying attitude of the officials of the AMC, the ambitious project virtually remains a non-starter.

City Manager, AMC, Shekhar Kumar, said that direction had been given to rectify the LED lights but the work could not start as some parts are not available in Ara market. The LED lights will be put in order after parts are brought from Patna.
