Patna : World No 83 in WTA rankings Samantha Stosur, 34, Australia, defeated World No 69 Evgeniya Rodina, 30, Russia, to enter the women’s singles second round of Miami Masters at Hard Rock Stadium, Florida, USA, on March 21, 2019.

Stosur, who had won the US Open singles title in 2011 and reached the French Open final in 2010, beat Rodina 6-4, 6-2 in the first round. Stosur fired 9 aces in the match to just 1 by Rodina. She, however, also committed 9 double faults in the match to 3 by Rodian. Stosur broke Rodina’s service 6 times in the match while the latter broke her service thrice. Stosur will face World No 17 Madison Keys, 23, USA, in the second round on March 22, 2019.

World No 46 Victoria Azarenka, Belarus, 29, the winner of Australian Open title in 2012 & 2013, also entered the 2nd round of the event on March 20, 2019, late night, defeating World No 35 Dominika Cibulkova, 29, Slovak Republic, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 in the first round.

Azarenka fired 9 Aces in the match to none by Cibulkova. Azarenka committed 5 double faults to 7 by Cibulkova. Azarenka broke Cibulkova’s service 6 times while the latter broke her service 4 times. Azarenka will face World No 21 Caroline Garcia, 25, France, in the 2nd round. Cibulkova had reached Australian Open final in 2014.
