Patna : Sri Lanka (SL) beat New Zealand (NZ) by 37 runs in the 3rd T20I at Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Pallekele, Sri Lanka, on September 6, 2019, night, with captain Lasith Malinga taking 5/6 in 4 overs including a hat-trick. He has now taken 100 wickets in T20Is, the first bowler to achieve the feat in this format. NZ lost 4 wicket when their score was just 15 runs. All the 4 wickets were taken by Malinga. NZ, however, won the three-match series 2-1 having won the first two T20Is.

Malinga was declared Player of the Match while NZ captain Tim Southee was declared Player of the Series.

Chasing a target of 126 runs, NZ were all out for 88 in 16 overs with captain and fast bowler Tim Southee scoring an unbeaten 28 in 23 balls with 3 sixes while spinner Mitchell Santner scored 16 in 15 balls with 1 four. Southee hit spinner Lakshan Sandakan for 3 sixes in the 13th over. Opener Colin Munro made 12 while Ross Taylor was out for zero.

Earlier opting to bat after winning the toss, SL had scored 125/8 in 20 oversĀ  runs with opener Dhanuska Gunathilaka scoring 30 while Niroshan Dickwella scored 24. Lahiru Madhushanka scored 20. For NZ, Mitchell Santner took 3/12 in 4 overs while fellow spinner Todd Astle took 3/28 in 4 overs.
