Sri Lanka 53/4 in 2nd innings in 3rd test against Eng., need another 274 runs to win

Patna : Chasing a target of 327 runs, Sri Lanka were 53/4 at stumps on day 3 of the 3rd test against England at Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo, Sri Lanka, on November 25, 2018, with Kusal Medis batting on 15 and Lakshan Sandakan on one. Sri Lanka, who are trailing 2-0 in the three-match test series, still need 274 runs to win this test. Sri Lanka have already lost the wickets of openers: Danushka Gunathilaka and Dimuth Karunaratne, Dhananjaya de Silva, and Angelo Mathews. For England spinner Moeen Ali has taken 2/16, Jack Leach 1/12, and Ben Stokes 1/14.

Electing to bat after winning the toss on November 23, 2018, England scored 336 runs in their first innings with Jonny Bairstow scoring 110, Ben Stokes 57, captain Joe Root 46, and Moeen Ali 33. For Sri Lanka, Lakshan Sandakan had taken 5/95 while Dilruwan Perera took 3/113.

In reply, Sri Lanka, made 240 in their first innings with opener Dimuth Karunaratne scoring 83 and Dhananjaya de Silva 73 trailing by 96 runs on first innings. England spinner Adil Rashid took 5/49 while Ben Stokes took 3/30

Resuming at their overnight score of 3/0, England were all out for 230 runs on November 25 with Jos Butter scoring 64, Ben Stokes 42, Moeen Ali 22, and Adil Rashid 24.Wicketkeeper Ben Foakes made an unbeaten 36. England had lost their first 4 wickets with only 39 runs on board. But, Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow steadied the innings with a 89 run stand for the 5th wicket. Captain Joe Root scored 7 runs.

For Sri Lanka, Dilruwan Perera took 5/88 while Malinda Pushpakumara took 3/28.
