Patna : Electing to bat after winning the toss, Sri Lanka (SL) were 340/6 in 85 overs scoring at a brisk pace in their first innings in the 1st test against South Africa (SA) at SuperSport Park, Centurion, South Africa, at stumps on Day Dinesh Chandimal scored 85 runs in 161 balls with 11 fours while Dhananjaya de Silva retired at 79 in 106 balls hitting 11 fours and 1 six. Niroshan Dickwella (wk) scored 49 in 86 balls with 6 fours. All-rounder Wiaan Mulder, 22, took 3/68 in 18 overs.

SL lost their first wicket at 28 when opener Dimuth Karunaratne (captain) fell to fast bowler Lungi Ngidi for 22. Kusal Mendis fell to fast bowler Anrich Nortje for 12 making it 54/2. Opener Kusal Perera fell to medium fast bowler Mulder for 16 and it was 54/3. But, Chandimal and Dhananjaya de Silva added over hundred runs to bring SL back into the game. But, De Silva retired hurt after scoring 79.

Chandimal  fell to Mulder for 85. Niroshan Dickwella also fell to Mulder for 49. Wanindu Hasaranga fell to fast bowler Lutho Sipamla, 22, for 18 and it was 320/6. Dasun Shanaka was unbeaten on 25 while Kasun Rajitha was batting on 7 at stumps.
