Patna : New Zealand (NZ) were 222/3 in their first innings in 1st test against Pakistan at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui, NZ, at stumps on Day 1 as captain Kane Williamson and Ross Taylor added 120 runs for the third wicket. Williamson was unbeaten on 94 in 243 balls with 8 fours and 1 six while Henry nicholls was batting on 42 in 100 balls with 4 fours at stumps. Pakistan won the toss and opted to bowl.

Ross Taylor fell to fast bowler Shaheen Afridi for 70 in 151 balls with 10 fours and 1 six. Batting first, NZ lost their first two wickets with only 13 runs on board. Both the openers : Tom Latham and Tom Blundell, fell to Shaheen Afridi. Latham fell to Afridi for 4 making it 4/1. Blundell fell to Afridi for 5 making it 13/2. But, Williamson and Taylor steadied the innings adding 120 runs for the 3rd wicket.

Williamson and Nicholls have so far added 89 runs in their unbroken partnership for the 4th wicket. Williamson is just 6 runs away from his 23rd test century. Afridi has taken 3/55 in 20 overs.
