Patna : Sri Lanka (SL) , who were 20/3 at stumps on day 3 of the first test against New Zealand (NZ) at Basin Reserve, Wellington, New Zealand on December 17, 2018, and were staring at defeat, ended the day 4 at 259/3 in 102 overs in their second innings not losing any wicket on the day with Kusal Mendid batting on 116 in 287 balls with 12 fours and Angelo Mathews batting on 117 in 293 balls with 11 fours.
Kusal Mendis and Angelo Mathews batted through the day with great determination and have added 246 runs for the 4th wicket so far. Sri Lanka had lost their third wicket on 13. SL now trail by just 37 runs.
New Zealand were all out for 578 runs in their first innings with opener Tom Latham scoring an unbeaten 264 and captain Kane Williamson 91. Sri Lanka had scored 282 in their first innings with Angelo Mathews scoring 83.
