Patna : South Africa defeated Australia by 6 wickets in the second cricket test at St George’s Park, Port Elizabeth, South Africa, before tea on the fourth day of the match equalling the four-match test series 1-1. South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada, who took 11 wickets in the test, was declated Man of Match.
South Africa, who needed to score 101 to win the second test, made 102/4 with Theunis de Bruyn unbeaten on 15 and Captain Faf du Plessis on 2 not out. Hashim Amla made 27 in 42 balls hitting 3 fours while A B de Villiers made 28 in 26 balls hitting 4 fours and a six. Opener Aiden Markram made 21 while Dean Elgar was out for 5. Both Amla and de Villiers were out with South Africa’s score reading 81. For Australia, fast bowler Pat Cummins took 2/13 in 4.5 overs. Spinner Nathan Lyon and fast bowler Josh Hazlewood took one wicket each.
Australian Captain Steven Smith said that his team scored 75 runs less in the first innings and 50 runs less in the second innings. He highly appreciated the batting of de Villers. Both Smith and South Africa Captain Faf du Plessis described the bowling of Kagiso Rabada as exceptional. De Villiers had scored an unbeaten 126 in the South Africa’s first innings.
