Patna : Spinner Keshav Maharaj and pacer Vernon Philander added 109 runs in 259 balls for the 9th wicket as South Africa (SA) scored 275 runs in 105.4 overs in their first innings in the 2nd test against India on Day 3 at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium, Pune, on October 12, 2019. South Africa trail by 326 runs. India had declared their 1st innings at 601/5 in the 3rd session of play on Day 2 with captain Virat Kohli scoring an unbeaten 254, his 26th test century and 7th double century.

SA had lost their 8th wicket that of captain Faf du Plessis (64) at 162. Keshav Maharaj fell to spinner Ravichandran Ashwin for 72 in 132 balls with 12 fours making it 271/9. Fast bowler Kagiso Rabada also to Ashwin for 2. Philander remained unbeaten on 44 in 192 balls with 6 fours. Quinton de Kock made 31.

Ashwin took 4/69 while fast bowler Umesh Yadav took 3/37. Mohammad Shami took 2/44 while spinner Ravindra Jadeja took 1/81.
