Patna : Chasing a target of 272 runs, South Africa (SA) were 168/3 after 36 overs in 2nd ODI against Australia at Mangaung Oval, Bloemfontein, SA, on March 4, 2020, late night, with opener Janneman Malan, 23, unbeaten on 73 hitting 2 fours and 2 sixes and Heinrich Klaasen, who had scored an unbeaten 123 in 1st ODI, batting on 44 with 3 fours and a six. SA still need 104 runs to win the match and series.

SA made a disastrous start losing their first wicket with only 1 run on board as Quinton de Kock (c & wk) falling to Mitchell Starc for a duck. Opener Malan and Jon-Jon Smuts then added 91 runs for 2nd wicket. Smuts fell to spinner Adam Zampa for 41 in 64 balls hitting 3 fours. Kyle Verreynne fell to fast bowler pat Cummins for 3 making it 103/3.

Electing to bat after winning the toss, Australia were all out for 271 in 50 overs with fast bowler Lungisani Ngidi taking 6/58. Aaron Finh (c & opener) and D Arcy Short scored 69 each while opener David Warner scored 35. All-rounder Mitchell Marsh scored 36.
