Patna : World No 137 Joao Sousa, 32, Portugal, defeated 6th seed Emil Ruusuvuori, 22, Finland, in three-sets in singles final to win the Tata Open Maharashtra, Pune, title on February 6, 2022. Sousa beat World No 87 Ruusuvuori in a hard-fought match 7-6, 4-6, 6-1 in final in 2 hr 44 minutes. Tata Open Maharashtra is an ATP 250 points tennis tournament and has returned to ATP circuit after a gap of two years.

Sousa won 4 break points during the match to 3 by Ruusuvuori during the match. Both the players won 5 games each in a row during the match. Both of them also committed 4 double faults each in the match. The Portuguese, in all, won 104 points in the match to 99 by the Finn.. Ruusuvuori though won 40 receiving point to 36 by Sousa. The Finn fought very hard in first two sets but was completely off colour in third set. It was Sousa’s 4th career title.

The Indian paid of Rohan Bopanna & Ramkumar Ramnathan won the double title in three-sets.
