Patna : Set a target of 660 runs, Sri Lanka (SL) were 24/2 at stumps on day 3 in their 2nd innings in the second test against New Zealand on December 28, 2018, with Kusal Mendis batting on 6 and captain Dinesh Chandimal batting on 14. Openers Dhanushka Gunathilaka and Dimuth Karunaratne were out for 4 and zero respectively. Sri Lanka need to score 636 runs more to win this match with 2 days left to play and 8 wickets in hand.
Earlier resuming at their overnight score of 231/2, New Zealand declared their 2nd innings at 585/4 in 153 overs on day 3 with opener Tom Lathan, who had scored an unbeaten 264 in the first innings in the first test, scoring 176 in 370 balls with 17 fours and a six and Henry Nicholls scoring an unbeaten 162 in 225 balls with 16 fours. All-rounder Colind de Grandhomme remained not out on 71 in 45 balls with 6 fours and 2 sixes. Ross Taylor was out for 40 while opener Jeet Raval made 74. Captain Kane Williamson scored 48. For Sri Lanka, Lahiru Kumara took 2/134.
Sri Lanka were all out for just 104 in their first innings while New Zealand had scored 178 in their first innings.
