SL 227/7 in 1st innings at stumps on Day 2 in 1st test against NZ

Patna : Sri Lanka (SL) were 227/7 in 80 overs at stumps on Day 2 in their first innings in the first test against New Zealand (NZ) on August 15, 2019, with Niroshen Dickwella (wk) batting on 39 in 74 balls hitting one four and fast bowler Suranga Lakmal unbeaten on 28 in 79 balls with 2 fours and a six. Kusal Mendis scored 53 in 89 balls with 7 fours and a six while Angelo Mathews made 50 in 98 balls with 7 fours and six. Mendis and Mathews added 77 runs for the third wicket.

SL lost their first wicket that of opener Lahiru Thirimanne with 27 run on board. Thirimanne fell to spinner Ajaz Patel for 10. They lost their second wicket at 66 when opener Dimuth Karunaratne ( captain) fell to Ajaz Patel for 39 in 73 balls with 4 fours. Patel also took the wickets of Kusao Mendis and Angelo Mathews. Kusal Perera fell to fast bowler Trent Boult for 1 while Dhananjaya de Silva fell to Patel for 5. Spinner Akila Dananjaya fell to spinner William Edgar Richard Somerville for zero. SL trail by 22 runs. Dickwella and Lakmal have so far added 66 runs for the 8th wicket.

For NZ, spinner Ajaz Patel, 30,  took 5/76 in 29 overs while Boult and Somerville, 35, took one wicket each. Earlier, resuming at their overnight score of 203/5, NZ were all out for 249 in 83.2 overs with Ross Taylor scoring 86 and Henry Nicholls 42.
