Ranchi (Jharkhand) : Six Maoists were killed in an encounter with police and Cobra 209 battalion of CRPF in Budha Pahari area under Chipadohar police station in Latehar district in Jharkhand in the wee hours on November 23, 2016. No police jawan was injured in the encounter which took place close Chhatisgarh border. Police seized several arms including a Carbine, an Insas rifle and an SLR besides live cartridges from the place after the encounter.

Cobra 209 battalion of CRPF had received information that Maoists allegedly led by their central committee member Arvind had gathered at the place to hold meeting. When police reached there searching for them, the Maoists started firing at them. Police jawans also returned the fire in which six ultras were killed. Realising that police were dominating them, the Maoists escaped taking advantage of the forest. Police are still conducting search operation in the area. Latehar SP Anoop Birthere has described the killing of six maoists and seizure of arms and ammunition as a major achievement of police. It is a majorsetback to Maoists, said an IG rank officer of Jharkhand.
