Sitamarhi : Sitamarhi district on July 18, 2018, evening, achieved the feat of becoming the first Open Defecation Free (ODF) district of Bihar. Sitamarhi district administration in the presence of people’s representatives and social workers released a bulletin in this regard that was read out by Chairperson, Zila Parishad, Sitamarhi, Uma Devi, amid  clapping.

Chairperson, Zila Parishad, Uma Devi, said that now Sitamarhi is ODF. She congratulated the entire team of district administration headed by DM Ranjeet Kumar Singh, people’s representatives, social workers, town residents and villagers for achieving the milestone.

The DM said that Sitamarhi is 416th district in the country to become ODF. The district administration has been working hard for the last a few years to take the crown. “We have been working under Swachh Bharat Mission and Lohia Swachh Bharat Abhiyan as our district’s population has crossed 40 lakh mark,” the DM said. He said that there shall be a big commemoration in near future under the banner of Aatm Gaurav Yatra where the Bihar Chief Minister would announce it officially.
It may be mentioned here that Belsand Sub-Division in Sitamarhi district was declared ODF in November 2016 at a function attended by CM Nitish Kumar.
Sitamarhi DM Ranjeet Kumar Singh is an IAS officer of Gujarat cadre and he has to his credit  making Narmada district ODF. He is the recipient of Mahatma Gandhi Swachhata Puraskar, Gujarat state Swachhata Puraskar, and Swachh Darpan Puraskar.
