Patna : World No 42 Katerina Siniakova, 23, Czech Republic, stunned World No 1 and top seed Naomi Osaka, 21, Japan, in the third round of French Open on June 1, 2019, in a massive upset in the tournament. Siniakova beat Osaka 6-4, 6-2 at Roland Garros, Paris, France to advance to Round of 16 of the clay court event.

Siniakova broke Osaka’s service thrice in the match besides winning 5 games in a row. Siniakova won 45 service points to 31 by Osaka, the reigning UP Open and Australian Open Champion. She will face World No 14 Madison Keys, 24, USA, the Round of 16 on June.

Madison Keys beat World No 117 Anna Blinkova, 20, Russia, in three-sets 6-3, 6-7, 6-4 in the third round. Both the players fired 4 Aces each in the match. Both of them also won 3 games each in a row in the match. Keys, a 2017 US Open finalist,  won 6 break points to 4 by Blinkova. Keys had reached SFs of French Open in 2018.

World No 3 and defending champion Simona Halep, 27, Romania, beat World No 27 Lesia Tsurenko, 30, Ukraine, 6-2, 6-1 to advance to the Round of 16. Halep, the 3rd seed, broke Tsurenko’s service 8 times in the match while the latter broker service thrice. Halep also won 7 games in a row. None of the two players served any Ace in the match. Tsurenko had reached 4th round of French Open in 2018.
