Patna : Defending champion and World No 6 P V Sindhu, 24, India, won her first match in HSBC BWF World Tour Finals at Guangzhou, China, on December 13, 2019.

Sindhu beat World No 7 He Bing Jiao, 22, China, 21-19, 21-19 in 42 minutes in a Group A match at Tianhe Gymnasium, Guangzhou. But, Sindhu failed to qualify for the semi-finals as she had lost her two Group matches and finished with just one points.

Sindhu won 42 rallies in the match to 38 by He Bing Jiao.She won 9 consecutive points in the match to 5 by the Chinese. He Bing Jiao, however, still leads Sindhu 9-6 Head to Head. The Chinese lost all of her three Group Stage matches..

World No 2 Chen Yu Fei, 21, China, beat World No 4 Akane Yamaguchi, Japan, 21-14, 21-10 in just 29 minutes in another Group A match. With this, Chen Yu Fei has won all her three matches in Group stage and qualified for the semi-finals. Chen won 42 rallies in the match to 24 by Yamaguchi. She won 9 consecutive points to 4 by the Japanese in the match. Yamaguchi, however, still leads Chen 10-7 Head to Head. Yamaguchi has also qualified for SFs from this group winning two of her three Group A matches.
