Patna : World No 6 P V Sindhu, 23, India, stunned World No 1 Tai Tzu Ying, 24, Chinese Taipei, in her second round robin match in the Badminton World Federation (BWF) finals 2018 in China on December 13, 2018.

Sindhu beat Tai Tzu Ying, the top seed, in a three-game thriller 14-21, 21-16, 21-18 in 61 minutes at Tianhe Gymnasium, Guangzhou, China, to register her second victory in the tournament. Sindhu won 56 rallies in the match to 55 by Tai Tzu. Tai Tzu was all over Sindhu in the first game. Sindhu, however, made a strong comeback and won the next two games. Tai Tzu Ying still leads Sindhu 10-4 head to head.

Sindhu had defeated World No 2 Akane Yamaguchi, Japan, on December 12, 2018. Sindhu won 7 consecutive point in the match to 5 by her rival. Tai Tzu had beaten World No 12 Beiwen Zhang, USA, in her first match on December 12.

World No 16 Michelle Li, 27, Canada, stunned World No 3 Chen Yufei, 20, China, in three-games 16-21, 21-18, 21-17 in 71 minutes. Michelle Li had lost first match to World No 5 Nozomi Okuhara, Japan, in straight games on December 12.
