Patna : India is assured of a gold and a silver medal in women’s singles badminton at Gold Coast Commonwealth Games (CWG) as both P V Sindhu and Saina Nehwal reached the final of the event on April 14, 2018, making it an all Indian final. Sindhu is 2016 Rio   Olympics silver medallist while Sainahad won bronze medal at 2012 London Olympics.

Sindhu beat defending champion Michelle Li, 26, Canada, 21-18, 21-8 in the semi-finals while Saina beat 2014 Glasgow CWG silver medallist Kristy Gilmour, 24, Scotland, in three sets  21-14, 18-21, 21-17 in the other semi-finals.

In the men’s singles, World Number 1 Badminton player Kidambi Srikanth, 24, India, has also reached the final defeating Rajiv Ouseph, England, 21-10, 21-17 in the semi-finals. But, H S Pranoy, 25, India, lost to three time olympic silver medallist Lee Chong Wei, Malaysia, in the other semi-finals in three sets. Lee defeated Pranoy 21-16, 9-21, 21-14 in the semi-finals. Pran.oy later lost to Rajiv Ouseph in the bronze medal match.
