Sindhu, Saina, Tai Tzu & Carolina reach QFs of Malaysia Masters

Patna : World Champion P V Sindhu,24, and World No 11 Saina Nehwal, both India, entered the quarter-finals of Perodua Malasia Masters, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 500 event, at Kualalumpur, Malasia, winning their respective second round matches in straight games on January 9, 2020.

Saina, who has won 24 career titles, beat World No 9 and 8th seed A N Se Young, 17, South Korea, 25-23, 21-12 in 39 minutes in 2nd round at Axiata Arena, Kualalumpur. Saina, 29, won 46 rallies in the match to 35 by Young, who has won 5 career titles. Saina won 6 consecutive points in the match to 5 by the South Korean. The two players are now locked 1-1 Head to Head.

World No 6 Sindhu, who has won 15 career titles, beat World No 19 Aya Ohori, 23, Japan, 21-10, 21-15 in 34 minutes in second round. Sindhu, the 6th seed,  won 42 rallies in the match to 25 by Ohori. She won 6 consecutive points in the match to 4 by the Japanese. Sindhu now leads Ohori 9-0 Head to Head. Ohori has won 6 career titles.

Reigning Olympic Champion and three-time former World Champion Carolina Marin, 26, Spain, beat World No 23 Cai Yan Yan, 20, China, 21-16, 21-18 in 46 minutes in 2nd round to enter the quarter-finals. Caolina won 42 rallies in the match to 34 by Yan. She won 9 consecutive points to 3 by the Chinese. Carolina now leads Yan 3-0 Head to Head. Carolina has won 29 career titles to 4 by Cai Yan Yan.

Top seed and World No 2 Tai Tzu Ying, 25, Chinese Taipei, beat World No 12 Sung Ji Hyun, 28, South Korea, in three-games 21-18, 16-21, 21-10 in 52 minutes in second round to enter the QFs of the event. Tai Tzu won 58 rallies in the match to 49 by Hyun. She won 5 consecutive points to 3 by Hyun. Tai Tzu now leads Hyun 19-9 Head to Head.
