Patna : World No 3 in Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings P V Sindhu, 23, and World No 10 Saina Nehwal, 28, entered the semi-finals of women’s badminton singles at the 18th Asian Games at Jakarta -Palembang, Indonesia, on August 26, 2018, assuring India of at least two Bronze Medals in the women’s singles for the first times. Syed Modi was the last Indian shuttler to win a Bronze medal at the Asian Games in 1982.

World No 10 Saina Nehwal, 28, assured India its first medal in women’s badminton singles at 18th Asian Games in Indonesia on August 26 by beating World No 4 Ratchanok Intanon, Thailand, in straight games in the quarter-finals. Saina beat 4th seed Intanon 21-18, 21-16 in 42 minute to enter the women’s singles semi-finals.

World No 3 and Olympic Silver Medallist Sindhu beat World No 11 Nitchaon Jindapol, Thailand, in a three-set thriller 21-11, 16-21, 21-14 in 61 minute in the quarter-finals assuring India of another medal. Sindhu, the 3rd seed, won seven points in row in the third set to take the lead.
