Patna : World No 6 in Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings P V Sindhu, India, and World No 92 Riya Mookerjee, India, advanced to the women’s singles 2nd round of Yonex-Sunrise India Open 2019 on March 27, 2019, at Siri Fort Indoor Stadium, New Delhi India.

Sindhu swept aside World No 71 Mugdha Agrey, India, 2108, 21-13 in just23 minutes in the first round of the tournament. Sindhu won 42 rallies in the match to 21 by Agrey. She also won 8 consecutive points to 4 by Agrey.

Riya beat World No 86 Phittayaporn Chaiwan, Thailand, 21-17, 21-15 in 38 minutes in the first round. Riya won 42 rallies in the match to 32 by Chaiwan. Riya won 7 consecutive points in the match to 3 by Chaiwan. Chaiwan still leads Riya 2-1 head to head.

World No 8 and 4th seed Ratchanok Intanon, Thailand, beat World No 88 Sai Uttejitha Rao Chukka, India, 21-9, 21-6 in just 21 minutes in the first round. Intanon won 42 rallies in the match to 15 by Chukka. Intanon won 6 consecutive points to 2 by Chuka.

World No 21 Li Xuerui, China, a former Olympic gold medallist, beat World No 23 Nitchaon Jindapol, Thailand, 21-17, 21-11 in 31 minutes in the first round.
