Patna : World No 3 in Badminton World Federation (BWF) rankings P V indhu, 23, India, on July 6, 2018, lost to World No 7 HE Bingjiao, 21, China, 14-21, 15-21 in the quarter-finals of Indonesia Open 2018, a BWF World Tour Super 1,000 tournament. Sindhu lost Bingjiao in only 37 minutes at GBK Istora Senayan Stadium 1. Sindhu had also lost in the semi-finals of Malaysia Open 2018.
World NO 5 Chen Yufei, China, upset World No 2 Akane Yamaguchi, Japan, to enter the semi-finals of the tournament, Yufei beat Yamaguchi 23-21, 21-8 in he quarter-finals.
World No 10 Sung Ji Hyun, South Korea, entered the semi-finals defeating World No 4 Ratchanok Intanon, Thailand, 21-12, 21-12 in the quarter-finals.
World No 1 Tai Tzu Ying, Chinese Taipei, entered the semi-finals defeating Kirsty Gilmour, 24, Scotland, 21-16, 21-11 in the quarter-finals. Ying beat Gilmour in only 31 minute.
In the men’s section, World No 14 H S Prannoy, 25, lost to World No 3 Shi Yuqi, China, 17-21, 18-21 in the quarter-finals at GBK Istora Senayan Stadium 2. Prannoy, who was seeded 8th, lost the match in 39 minutes.
World No 1 and top seed Viktor Axelsen, Denmark, entered the semi-finals of the tournament defeating World No 42 Kanta Tsuneyama, 22, Japan, 21-11, 21-10 in 34 minute.
