Patna : World No 5 P V Sindhu, 24, India, reached the women’s singles final of BWF World Championships at Basel, Switzerland, for the third successive year beating World No 3 Chen Yu Fei, 21, China, in straight games in the semi-finals on August 24, 2019, evening final. Sindhu will face World No 4 and 2017 World Champion Nozomi Okuhara, 24, Japan, in the final at St Jakobshalle, Basel, on August 25, 2019.
Fifth seed Sindhu beat All England Open champion and 4th seed Yu Fei 21-7, 21-14 in 40 minutes in the semi-finals. Sindhu won 42 rallies in the match to 21 by Yu Fei. She also won 6 consecutive points in the match to 2 by the Chinese. Sindhu now leads Yu Fei 6-3 Head to Head.
Sindhu had also reached World Championships final at Glasgow in 2017 and at Nanjing, China, in 2018. She had also won Silver Medal at 2016 Olympic at Rio de Janeiro.
Third seed Okuhara beat World No 6 Ratchanok Intanon, Thailand, the 7th seed, in a three-set slugfest 17-21, 21-18, 21-15 in 83 minutes in the semi-finals on August 24, 2019, evening. Okuhara won 59 rallies in the match to 54 by Intanon. Both the players won 9 consecutive points each in the match. Okuhara now leads Intanon 8-5 Head to Head.
