Patna : World Champion P V Sindhu, 24, India, and reigning Olympic Champion Carolina Marin, 26, Spain, top seed Che Yu Fei, China, and World No 3 Akane Yamaguchi, Japan, Ajentered the quarter-finals of Yonex All England Open, an HSBC BWF World Tour Super 1,000 Badminton Tournament, at Birmingham, England.

Sixth seed P V Sindhu beat World No 12 Sung Ji Hyun, 28, South Korea, in straight games 21-19, 21-15 in 49 minutes in 2nd round to advance to QFs. Sindhu won 42 rallies in the match to 34 by Sung. She won 5 consecutive points to 4 by Sung. Sindhu now leads Sung 9-8 Head to Head. World No Saina Nehwal, India, lost in the first round on March 11, 2020.

World No 7 and three-time former World Champion Carolina Marin beat World No 16 Wang Zhi Yi, 19, China, 21-13, 21-14 in 36 minutes in 2nd round to enter QFs. She won 42 rallies in the match to 27 by Wang. She won 6 consecutive points to 3 by the Chinese. It was first meeting between the two players.

World No 1 & defending champion Chen Yu Fei, 22, China, beat World No 13 Busanan Ongbamrungphan, Thailand, 21-17, 21-13 in 41 minutes in 2nd round to enter the QFs. She won 42 rallies in the match to 30 by Busanan. Chen now leads Busanan 7-2 Head to Head.

World No 3 & 3rd seed Akane Yamaguchi, 22, Japan, beat World No 11 Sakaya Takahashi, 27, Japan, 21-13, 21-15 in 34 minutes in 2nd round to reach QFs. Yamaguchi now leads Takahashi 5-0 Head to Head.
