Patna : World No 6 P V Sindhu, 23, India, won the Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Tour Finals 2018 women’s singles title beating World No 5 Nozomi Okuhara, 23, Japan, in the final at Tianhe Gymansium, Guangzhou, China, on December 16, 2018. Sindhu beat Okuhara, the 2017 world champion, in straight games 21-19, 21-17 in the final in 62 minutes in a tough contest.
This was Sindhu’s first major tournament victory in 2018. Sindhu was appearing in her second straight final at the BWF World Tour Finals.
Sindhu, who had lost to Okuhara in the final of 2017 world championship at Glasgow, Scotland, won 42 rallies in the match to 36 by Okuhara. She won 5 consecutive points during match while Okuhara won 4. Sindhu now leads Okuhara 7-6 head to head.
