Patna : Top seed Simona Halep, 28, Romania, beat 9th seed Garbine Muguruza, 26, Spain, in a three set thriller in semi-finals at Foro Italico, Rome, Italy, on September 20, 2020, evening, to enter the women’s singles final of Italian Open.
Simona, who will turn 29 on September 29, 2020, beat Muruguza, a former French Open and Wimbledon Champion, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 in semi-finals to reach Italian Open final for the third time.
Simona, who too has won French Open (2018) and Wimbledon 92019) singles titles, won 9 break points in the match to 7 by the Spainiard. The Romanian won 97 points in the match to 94 by the Spainiard. Muruguza though committed 8 double faults to 2 by Simona. Both the players won 4 games each in a row in the match. The Romanian served to 2 ACes in the match to none by Muruguza.
Simna will play the winner of the second semi-finals between defending champion and 2nd seed Karolina Pliskova, 28, Czech Republic, and 12th seed Marketa Vondrousova, 21, Czech Republic, in the final.
