SHO, Bhitaha, suspended after custodial death of accused

Bagaha : SP, Bagaha Police District, Arvind Kumar Gupta, on January 11, 2018, placed under suspension SHO, Bhitaha police station, Lal Babu Prasad, on the  charge of costodial torture of an accused Ramakant Kushwaha of viillage Rupahi under the police station resulting in his death on January 10, 2018.

The villagers alleged that Ramakant Kushwaha died in police custody due to  police highhandedness but the local police had denied allegation. The SP got the allegations levelled by the villagers against SHO Prasad through SDPO, Bagaha, Sanjit Kumar and prima facie the allegations were found true. A group of angry villagers on January 11 staged gherao of the police station with the dead body  demanding suspension of the SHO and a case of brutality lodged against himagainst the SHO.

Sources said that a clash had taken place between two group of villagers on January 9, 2018. Udhay Narain Kushwaha, member of one of the two groups, was seriously injured in the clash and referred to Sader Hospital, Bettiah. Police had arrested leader of the rival group Ramakant Kushwaha and allegedly brutally assaulted him resulting in his death under police custody.
