Patna: Siwan Police on Saturday evening arrested Upendra Singh in connection with the murder of a journalist Rajdev Ranjan . Police said Upendra Singh was recently released on bail from jail after he was arrested in 2014 in connection with the murder of Srikant Bharti, secretary of Siwan BJP MP Omprakash Yadav. Upendra is considered a sharp shoooter of the RJD’s national executive committee member,Md Shahbuddin,who is currently in jail.

Wide condemnation of the killing of Siwan journalist Rajdev Ranjan continued on Saturday with the Press Council of India chairman, former Judge of Supreme Court, Chandramauli K Prasad demanding setting up of fast track court and urging the government of India to frame special laws to protect the journalists. Chandramauli, who was earlier a Judge at Patna High Court too, in a statement issued by the council strongly condemned the killing and expressed “great concern” over murder of a journalist at Chatra in Jharkhand two days back .He regretted in 96% of such cases ,the matter was not taken to logical conclusions.

RJD MP and a former junior union home minister Md Taslimuddin , thouggh his party is a partner in Nitish Kumar led government, too condemned murder of journalist and said law and order has collapsed in Bihar .He said, “This is not good governance,but Mahajungle Raj and for this Nitish Kumar himself is responsible”.However, his party president Lalu Prasad condemned the murder of Siwan journalist and hoped the culrpits would be arrested soon. Taslimuddin’s concern was shared by another former union minister and RJD vice-president Raghuwansh Prasad Singh,who said there was deterioation in law and order and crime has increased. Bihar government  has failed in controlling crimes, he said adding the chief minister should spend more time in Bihar than outside the state.

A team of BJP leaders consisting of leader of opposition in Bihar assembly,Pem Kumar ,leader of opposition in Bihar legislative council,Sushil Kumar Modi, and state BJP chief Mangal Pandey visited Siwan and met the bereaved family members.Modi alleged Rajdev was killed on the instructions of Siwan’s Bahubali leader(read former MP Shahbuddin) who is lodged in jail.He demanded a CBI probe into the incident.

Union food and consuemr affairs minister Ram Vilas Paswan demanded imposition of President’s Rule in the state alleging crime graph has gone up. On Friday night,two jawans of GRP escort party in a train were shot at,one of them died in the hospital, and their rifles were looted.A police sub-inspector was killed in Nalanda when he had gone to arrest a criminal. Criminals are having freedoom since Nitish took over in November last year,he said. Senior BJP MP Ashwini Kumar Chaubey,in a statement, said journalisrs should be given security in Bihar as the jailed RJD leader was instrumental in killing of Siwan journalist. He had led a delegation of NDA MPs to President Pranab Mukherjee on Friday and submitted a memorandum demanding imposition of President’s Rule in Bihar.

Former chief minister Jeetan Ram Manjhi too demanded dismissal of Nitish Kumar  government He said Mahajungle Raj has come to the state and police were helpless in controlling crimes and Niish Kumar was dreaming of becoming the prime minister.

Journalists of electronic and print media took out a parch at Patna demanding arrest of the criminals involved in murder of Rajdev. Similiar protest marches were taken out at different places in the state.
Meanwhile, Siwan SP Saurabh Kumar Shah On Saturday said two persons have been detained in connection with the Friday incident .He said Rajdev was shot dead from close by criminals who had come on two moorcycles.Two bullets hit journalist and three more bullets were found at the site of the murder.
