Patna : A Government railway police (GRP) constable Abhisekh Singh was shot dead while another constable Nand Lal Yadav sustained grievous injuries when about half a dozen criminals opened fire on them on the running Mughalsarai – Buxar passenger train late Friday night near Chausa in Buxar dsitrict.
The incident took place near Chausa under Danapur division of East Central (ECR) around 11.05 pm on Friday nigh. Criminals fled away unchallenged with the two rifles looted from the f GRP under the cover of darkness near Chausa.
Mughalsarai GRP SHO Tripurari Pandey said that two constables were escorting the night passenger train from Mughalsarai. As soon as the train reached Chausa, the miscreants swung into action and attacked the two armed constables,who were caught unaware and received bullet injuries in their chest and stomach. While Singh died on the spot, Yadav was rushed to the BHU Medical College and Hospital at Varanasi for treatment, Pandey said .
Pandey said Yadav’s condition was critical till Sagurday afternoon. Body of the victim was, however, sent for an autopsy at the BHU hospital. As usual on train escort duty, both the constables were carrying rifles. Incidentally there was no report of the loot of passengers’ belongings by the armed miscreants. The GRPis investigating into the incident from different angles to find out whether the motive of crime was loot of weapons of the GRP escort party only, he said .
Meanwhile, senior GRP officials from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar rushed to spot and ordered combing of the entire area between Buxar and Dildarnagar to arrest the culprits involved in the crime. GRP team have identified a few suspect . Hands of Maoists are not ruled out in this incident, sources said. An FIR has been lodged with the Buxar GRP in the matter. No arrest has been made so far .
