Serena & Bianca to clash in US Open final

Patna : Six-time champion and World No 8 Serena Williams, 37, and World No 15 Bianca Andreescu, 19, Canada, will clash in the women’s singles final of US Open at New York City, USA, on September 8, 2019. Serena is bidding for her record equalling 24th Grand Slam singles title.

Bianca edged past World N0 12 Belinda Bencic, 22, Switzerland, 7-6, 7-5 in 2hr 13 minutes at Arthur Ashe Stadium in the first semi-finals on September 6, 2019. The Canadian, who has reached her first Grand Slam final, won 4 break points in the match to 3 by Belinda. Bianca won 5 games in a row to 2 by Belinda. The Canadian fired 7 Aces in the match to 2 by the Swiss. She also won 62 service points to 43 by Belinda.

Serena crushed World No 5 Elina Svitolina, 24, Ukraine, 6-3, 6-1 in the second semi-final at Arthur Ashe Stadium in just 70 minutes winning 4 break points besides winning 6 games in a row to reach US Open final for the 10th time on September 6. Serena fired 6 Aces in the match to 5 by Svitolina. Serena’s winning percentage both on her first and second serve ( 86% & 63%) was much higher than that of Svitolina (58% & 50 %). The American won 36 service points to 32 by Svitolina, who had also reached Wimbledon SFs in 2019.
