Giridih :The operations against Maoists has been intensified in Giridih district in Jharkhand after Thursday’s encounter between them and security forces in Birni forests under Lokarnayanpur police station of the district.The encounter took place on  Jharkhand – Bihar border in Giridih district. About 6 – 7 ultras were reportedly injured during the four hour encounter during which about 150 rounds were fired from both sides in Birni forest on Thursday morning. The security forces had also recovered two guns, two magazines, 60 live cartridges, Naxal literatures, medicines and other belongings of the ultras from their hideouts.

Police sources said the incident took place around 9 am when a team of security forces comprising Jhrkhand police and CRPF personnel was on lomg range patrolling ( LRP )towards the Birni forests areas of Giridih district. The police team was led by CRPF’s Tisro camp DSP, Ajit Singh, who had information regarding presence of Siddhu Koda and Surang Yadav’s armed squad, which  were reportedly involved in killing of three persons at village Gadi under Chakai PS in Jamui district in Bihar on May 22.

“Our operations against the ultras were already intensified after the recent killing of three villagers in Bihar, but as soon as we received information about ongoing movement of the ultras especially Koda and Yadav’s armed squad across Giridih, we adopted a new modus operandi and laid a trap. Although  we failed to nab the extremists, but our brave forces pushed them into dense forests in which many of them were injured,” said ASP (Operations), Giridih,  Kunal Kumar, adding that the security forces have also spotted blood scattered in and around the place of encounter.
