Gopalganj: For the first time in Bihar after demonetization, currency notes of Rs. 500 denomination worth over Rs 50 lakh was found thrown in a field near village Bhagvanpur under Baikunthpur police station in Gopalganj district. On getting information, local police reached the spot and recovered only Rs 15,000 cash and a cement bag in which the cash was thrown. Gopalganj DM Rahul Kumar has constituted a team led by LDM to inquire into the recovery of cash.
Eyewitnesses said that some youth of the village found a cement bag thrown about 200 metres from Bhagvanpur-Rajapatti main road at around 3 pm. They tore the cement bag and were stunned to see huge cash in it. They collected the currency notes of Rs 500 denomination and reached their village and informed the people about it.
Soon a mob reached the spot and collected the cash and escaped to the village. Later, some of the villagers found the notes cut. Later, police reached the spot and started looking for the villagers, who had escaped with the cash.
Gopalganj DM Rahul Kumar said that a team was conducting probe on the basis of serial number of the notes seized by police.
