Patna : Top seed & World No 14 Diego Schwartzman, 27, Argentina, and World No 69 Juan Ignacio Londero, 26,Argentina, entered the semi-finals of Argentina Open, an ATP World Tour 250 event played on outdoor clay courts, at Buenos Aires, Argentina, on February 15, 2020.
Top seed Schwartzman edged past World No 44 Pablo Cuevas, 34, Uruguay,5-7, 7-6, 7-5 in 3hr 41 minutes quarter-finals to enter the SFs. Cuevas though fired 14 Aces in the match to just 1 by Schwartzman. Cuevas committed 4 double faults to 3 by Schwartzman.
Both the players won 4 break points each in the match. But, the Argentinian won 4 games in a row to 3 by Cuevas. Cuevas won 59 receiving points to 49 by the Argentinian. In all, Cuevas won 134 points to 132 by Schwartzman. But, the top seed won 83 service points to 75 by Cuecas. Schwartzman will face qualifier and World No 145 Pedro Sousa, 31, Portugal, in SFs on February 16, 2020. Sousa beat World No 92 Thiago Monteiro, 25, Brazil, 7-6, 6-4 in QFs.
Londero upset 2nd seed Guido Pella, 29, Argentina, 6-4, 7-6 in 1hr 54 minutes in QFs. Londero won 3 break points in the match to 2 by World No 27 Pella. Both the players won 2 game in a row in the match. Londero fired 5 Aces in the match to 1 by Pella. In all, Londero won 84 points to 68 by Pella. Londero won 35 receiving points to 19 by the 2nd seed Pella. Londero will face World No 45 Caspur Ruud, 21, Norway, in SFs on February 15 late night.
