Patna: Suspended RJD MLA from Nawad Raj Ballabh Yadav was on Friday served notice by the Supreme Court of India to respond by October 17 asking him to explain why his bail granted by Patna High Court should not be cancelled.

A division bench of the Supreme Court consisting of justice N V Ramanna and Justice N K Sikri heard a petition filed by Bihar government challenging bail granted to Raj Ballabh on Friday. After hearing the state government lawyers, the court issued notice to the MLA and put the next date of hearing to October 17.

Raj Ballabh had called on RJD president Lalu Prasad here on October 6 and called it a courtesy call. This action of the MLA accused of raping a minor girl had invited criticism from JD(U), a partner on grand alliance government, and BJP.
