Patna : Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu, 24, India, won gold medal in women’s 53 kg weightligting category at Gold coast Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2018 in Australia on April 6, 2018, increasing India’s gold tally to two at the games.

Manipur girl Khumukcham Sanjita Chanu, who had won gold medal in 48kg category in Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014,  lifted a total 192 kg – 84 kg in snatch and 108 kg in clean and jerk- a Commonwealth Games record on April 6, 2018. She took up weightlifting in 2006.

On April 5, 2018, Saikhom Mirabai Chanu, also from Manipur, had won first gold medal for India in 48 kg category setting a Commonwealth Games record. Mirabai had won silver medal in Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014.
